Product categories in MultiMerch

Starting with MultiMerch 8.7, it is possible to have two types of categories to group products in MultiMerch marketplaces – global marketplace categories and individual vendor categories.

Marketplace categories

Marketplace categories are global marketplace-wide categories that are managed by the marketplace administrator and appear to all customers in the header area of the marketplace.

Vendors do not have access to marketplace category management, but they can list their products to marketplace categories by default.

Marketplace categories display products by all vendors and administrators can control whether to allow vendors list to multiple categories.

It is also possible to disable individual categories to prevent vendors from listing products in them.

Vendor categories

In addition to marketplace categories, MultiMerch 8.7 makes it possible for vendors to create their own category structure to better arrange products within their own stores.

Vendor's category structure is displayed within vendor's individual store only and does not affect the main marketplace category tree.

If enabled by the marketplace administrator, vendors will get access to their own category management interface – it can be accessed through the Products page dropdown menu.

Vendor's category management interface makes it possible for vendors to create and maintain their own category structure that is independent from the main marketplace category tree.

After categories are created and approved by the administrator, vendors can list products to them. If a relevant MultiMerch setting is enabled, vendors can list products to both their own and global marketplace categories.

 

Admin controls

Marketplace administrators have two different category management interfaces – one for global marketplace categories and one for individual vendor categories.

Marketplace categories

Marketplace categories are created and managed through OpenCart's standard Admin > Catalog > Categories interface.

Vendor categories

Vendor categories can be managed via Admin > MultiMerch > Catalog > Categories page. This page is meant specifically for vendor category management.

This page comes with additional controls for category validation – all pending vendor categories will be displayed with a green "Approve" button.

It is also possible to create new categories for existing vendors through this interface.

Emails

MultiMerch currently notifies administrators of new vendor categories pending validation. Vendors are also notified when their categories are approved or modified.
